OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT’s advertising capabilities and plans to test ads linked to image generation. The pilot format is expected to launch in the US in late October 2026. A limited number of advertisers will take part in the initial testing phase.
The new format will allow brands to use visual materials, including product images. Ad placements will be separate from generated content and clearly labeled. Advertising should not influence ChatGPT’s responses, and advertisers will not have access to users’ private conversations.
The company is also developing tools to measure advertising effectiveness. AppsFlyer, Adjust, LiveRamp, Tealium, Hightouch, and Northbeam are listed among the integrations that will help track campaign results and analyze conversions.
Early advertising results already demonstrate the potential of the new channel. WeightWatchers reduced its customer acquisition cost by 15.3% compared with the paid search average. At Dose, new customers accounted for 67% of incremental purchases, while 93% of Portland Leather visitors arriving through ChatGPT Ads had not previously interacted with the brand.
