A baseline is the minimum amount a player must deposit in a casino or sportsbook for a webmaster to reach the KPI for an offer. Once the baseline is met, the webmaster receives a payout for the target action. The baseline amount depends on the advertiser’s business model and how profitable the traffic is for the product.
There are two types of baselines:
- Hard baseline – the player must deposit the full amount in a single transaction.
- Cumulative baseline – the player can reach the required amount gradually, through multiple smaller deposits.
Offers with a non-cumulative (hard) baseline often have higher stakes than offers with a minimum deposit (min-deposit). However, this doesn’t necessarily mean the affiliate will earn more — it’s harder to reach the conversion.
If you have high-quality traffic, for example from an SEO site about gambling, it may make sense to target offers with challenging KPIs and high baselines. In other cases, it’s better to choose offers with more lenient conditions.
Key point: the baseline ultimately determines whether you reach the goal and earn your payout.
